Assistant Professor - York University, Canada

Adeyemi Oludapo Olusola

Main current research questions:

  1. How can transboundary river basin governance structures be strengthened to promote equitable and sustainable water sharing under increasing climatic stress?
  2. What is the socio-hydrological impacts of climate-induced variability in flow regimes on riparian communities in African transboundary basins?
  3. What role can integrated river basin modeling and Earth Observation play in forecasting climate change impacts on water availability and informing transboundary water agreements?

"I am a river catchment scientist with a strong interest in river processes, forms, and their interactions with the surrounding environment. Friend-Water’s focus on hydrology and the spatial and temporal distribution of water aligns closely with my goals, as I seek to explore the dynamics of water not only within its channel but also across entire river landscapes and the impact of human activities."

Postdoctoral researcher - Rhodes University, South Africa

David Gwapedza

Main current research questions:

  1. What dividends including water security can be achieved from repurposing stormwater drainage in Windhoek?
  2. Understanding the socio-hydrological impact of seasonal floods in the Oshana Region of Namibia. How can we reduce negative impacts and maximise benefits?
  3. Developing a water quality modelling and management framework for South Africa.
  4. Can biochar enhance soil water retention in Namibia’ sandy agricultural regions?

"My work in urban and rural catchment hydrology aligns well with FRIEND-WATER’s focus  to understand river basins and how the humans interact with the hydrology. I have also begun a water quality project in South Africa that seeks to evaluate the influence of climate and human activities on water quality. The experimental biochar work in Namibia seeks to understand the effectiveness of human soil amendments on the temporal distribution of water within the soil layer. Thus, all my research activities generally align with FRIEND-WATER. "
